These are the pictures from early days: so now I need to paint the top, the edges on the damaged side, and the other good side to more or less match
I will follow your drawings, and mask up just like you did

The repair looks good. But the first coat of paint might show flaws that need work. Maybe a very thin coat of some kind of primer could then be feathered into the gelcoat. That would save you painting only to find that you need to do some more filling and/or sanding.

I forgot to mention on the other thread about painting a diagonal white stripe on the deck. You can see it in one of the pictures just forward of the shrouds. I did this so that I could stop the non-skid and not have to do the whole side deck in one application. It also gave me a way to get on and off the boat. I ended up doing the whole port side but just half the starboard side which was at the dock. I waited two days before walking on the new non-skid and finishing the starboard side.
