I am getting ready to paint my decks and need to know about how much paint to have on hand. I hate to run short after getting started. I have 2 quart cans of Interlux Interdeck paint and plan to box them together before starting so color will be uniform. I hate to have to add a 3rd can half way thru the job. Deck is already painted and I am freshing up.

Thanks for your reply.

By the way, Midnight Sun made a bee line to Cozumel this year. It looks like the winds died last night but got going again this morning. Hope his return trip is better than last year's :)

Two quarts should be plenty José. I figure one quart would probably do a one coat touch-up. I am planning on doing mine this year as well.

Are you doing just decks(sidedecks)? Or does "decks" include cabin roof, cockpit sole, and cockpit seats? If the latter then two quarts might be pushing it. As seen in my picture that is a lot of surface. But I don't think color will be a problem. You could mix three quarts and then put one away for future touchup work.

Will you have help? Keeping a wet edge is difficult on the width of the cabin trunk. You can see that I split my boat in half. From behind the anchor locker hatch I left a three-inch white strip. You can see it behind the mast.

Thanks for your input. Now I only need a cloudy day to do it. It is almost too hot to paint since the deck gets so hot the paint dries quickly. It's like you have brakes on your roller. I guess a long nap cover will leave a roughther texture than a foam cover. I use the small 6" rollers. I call them winnie rollers (or hot dog roller), my painter call them Tampax rollers. Regardless, they are cheap, light and work well.

Thanks.

I brushed on my Interlux Interdeck. The roller soaked up too much paint. And it is so thick that it does not roll well. Since I had to tip anyway I just decided to brush it on. It doesn't leave a single brush stroke.

Well today was a great day to paint. It only took my painter 1 quart for the 1st coat to do the decks. Looks a lot better already. Tomorow will do the 2nd coat.

Thanks

I know. I feel guilty. I have on my staff one of those guys that can do body work, fiberglass, paint, diesel mechanics, carpentry, ect, ect. He is employed as a floor mechanic but any day that we are not swamped with work, I steal him for a couple of hours and he picks a project and knocks it out.
Just dont tell the Admiral. She will dock his hours from my check. She is ruthless when it comes to my toys!
