We have recently purchased a new 36MkII catalina here in the UK. We are really pleased with her but found the non slip decks to be particularly slippery when wet. This has been a particular problem on the sloped sections near the wheel. We have tried several shoe makes, and several cleaners, but still seem to slip. Has anyone suffered this before and if so what have they done? We would appreciate any advice Derek

I am suprised

I have a Catalina 36 too and don't have that problem. The 36 boats are build in California and the factory makes the non skid in the mold.

Did it get waxed?

Someone may have inadvertantly waxed your nonskid. It protects & looks shiny new, only side effect is it gets very slippery .Ask your dealer/shipping agent if they were so kind as to wax your topsides. Try a cleaner that removes the wax. I believe there is a product/wax/protectant especially for nonskid, to avoid this situation. Can't seem to remember the name though...Anyone else remember?

Try the following product

I have used a product called Amazing Roll Off on my non-skid and it works great, cleans & protects without a slippery coating or film. Try an internet search on it for where to purchase (it's cheaper than the Starbrite deck cleaner). It's a very good all purpose cleaner as well.

Thanks for your replies. It is good to hear that others havent suffered the same problem, though I am struggling for the root cause.May be it will get better over time. I have used degreasant and several cleaners but without any major difference. Starbright products are popular over here, but I cannot get roll off. Regards Derek
