OK, after a week of posts with the news names (replacing Ask All Sailors with Ask A Non-Hunter owner, Non-Catalinaowner, Non-Oday owner, etc.) how does it work? There have been fewer misdirected posts, but do the names bother you or is it OK?

Forums

It really doesnt matter cause I run through all the forums anyway. One thing that concerns me is that I have my own forum, that I imagine most people have. However sometimes I run across an article that is not in my forum,no problem, just wondering.

Tested and true!

I liked the old method of ask all sailors. I asked general sailing questions and didn't really care what type of boat the responses came from. The "Ask Non-* Owners" seems to narrow the responses somewhat. Fair winds and calm seas, Michael s/v "Cool Runnings"

Thanks!

Steve - I never said you can't use the forum, I was simply using you as a non-example... Michael - Good point! That may call for another week of observation to see if, in fact, this is limiting responses (the ultimate sin). Tommy - You can modify My HOW Forum to show everything, but it will get too big and cumbersone. In my humble opinion, the best way to track _all_ the activity on the site is the 'Recent Forum' activity button on the home page, that shows everything posted in the past 24 hours. My HOW really works better for people who clearly _don't_ want to to monitor it all, but only see a certain type of post they are interested in. More feedback, please!

Real Feedback

Thanks Phil,I have seen that little "GO" and never realized what it meant. But then again I get a kick out of some of the responses,I am starting to look at who wrote them before I read them.It is nice to find something like the coffee bit and about that guy who bragged about his little johnson.

It's "Non-Offensive"

Do whatever seems to work best for the most people. I do share the concern for possibly limiting the posts and the responses. If you want to get responses from both "Hunter" AND "Non-Hunter" owners, do you have to post in BOTH forums? Should Hunter owners respond to posts in the "Non-Hunter Owner" forum? I don't really think that many people will be inhibited from either posting or responding, but it probably bears watching and asking some more. Carl s/v Syzygy

The Non- is a lonely Hunter

Phil, I usually just review recent activity, but in opening up some of the questions and responses that interest me, I sometimes find myself at the Non-Hunter Owner's forum, which sounds to me like a forum for the anti-H crowd over at CW. Nevertheless, it hasn't stifled my opining, when so moved. As a matter of fact, some of my best friends are non-Hunter owners! Eric Hunter Owner (*2)

Non-sense still makes no sense

Phil, I read the replies to date and I certainly wouldn't interpret them as ringing endorsements to the change. KISS works best for me. If I have to puzzle for even a micro-second about whether I'm supposed to be there or not because of the Non-word, it promotes non-inclusion. As I asked in an earlier post, is the glut on the "Ask All Sailors" the problem, or is it the lack of use of some of the specialized forums? Tom

Good point, Tom

The problem I'm trying to solve is the proper placement of posts that truly don't belong in that forum. The end result of these misplaced posts is, for example, a question about a specific part for a Catalina 30 being posted to the Oday, macgregor, Beneteau, and Hunter, sites... where it is often just noise. But if the medicine is worse than the disease I'm all for changing it back... and that does seem to be the sentiment.

Think Positive, huh?

Another Idea: *Ask any boat owner that may or may not know anything about the type of boat that you own because it really doesn't make any difference.* *Asking anyone that may know.* *Calling any/all Boaters* Very positive, don't you think?
