I have a 27' Catalina with an atomic 4 engine. The engine makes a noise in reverse gear. The mecanic has told me that this is the way atomic 4 engines sound in reverse. Is this true?

Describe the noise; mine

...sounds different in reverse than in forward, but it does not really sound alarming. MJ

You Bet

Tom - I just had my C-27 surveyed, and sat in on the whole thing. I asked my surveyor, who used to manage production for C&C yachts, about that very noise. He said it was normal. We spent some time putting it in reverse and listening, and it sure did sound like the thing was grinding itself to peices. Bottom line is that the noise is normal because the reverse mechanism is a floating type, with no positive engagement. I am bungling the wording, but if you need more info, refer to your Atomic Four Manual. If you don't have one, I'd be happy to look it up for you. Now go have FUN! Rob
