Hi Folks, Having just returned to New Jersey from Ft. Lauderdale via outside waters of the east coast, I was very imporessed with the navagation software the captain I hired for some of the trip was using. He had the Capn connected to a laptop with a GPS. ery sharp setup. I liked it so much that I went out and got a new laptop and Nobeltec's Visual Navagation Suite. The folks at Practical Sailor seemed to like it the best and it has some features the Capn lacks. So far I am pleased with it having had it all of 2 days. Anyone else out there in computer land have this system? Thoughts, comments advise ? Matt

Matt,

Sure do... Been using Vis. Navigator for the past 18mos. Used it to take me from Norfolk to Key West and back...,as well as many places on the Ches. Bay... I think its great... and I'm not ashamed to say I'd be real unhappy to have to sail without it. I use a desktop (mounted under my chart table) and a 15" flat screen on the chart table as well as a 2d 15" flat screen in the cockpit. I carry a 2d desktop with everything loaded as a backup. (you can have 2, more powerful, desktops for less than the cost of 1 laptop....) It takes much of the anxiety out of cruising... you go many places with confidence that you would have been reluctent to go without it. Also have 'The Capt'... but prefer Vis. Navigator.
