I have what I feel is an odd problem that I can not find the cause or the solution to. At times there will not be any water comming out of the exhaust. I have check the entire system step by step and not been able to find a problem. The problem occurs more often than not after I sailed all day and I am restarting the motor to head back to the dock, and it was fine on the way out! My current solution is to remove the raw water hose from the seacock and blow real hard at that point I hear water going in the in the exhaust and I rehook the hose back to the seacock and the system is working again. Any ideas on what is causing the problem?

Did you check your impellor?

Ok, so it's basic but sometimes we overlook the simplest things! LaDonna

no water

You Dont say what model of engine or wether it is raw water cooled. But try taking the out side of the pump off and running clean water thru it for a while ,check your thermostat maybe its stuck. if you have a 5411 raw water cooled very little water comes out the exhaust until it is warmed up because the thermostat is close and it is recycling back thru the y valve to intake to help heat the water to running temp good luck

two things come to mind after having both. the first is i sucked in debri and it was stuck in the thru hull before it got to the petcock. i separated the water filter from the petcock and turned it on and a bit of a stream was coming through. i unscrewed the petcock from the hull and rammed a wire through and dislodged the stick. when i put it back together i still had no water ehaust and i traced it to improper seal of the water filter. you have to have an airtight seal to work correctly. check gasket and turn it on hard to secure. the third is the impeller but i ended up losing the gasket and a screw to that so i was down without reason.

Do you have a 54-11?

The Universal 54-11 (also called the Atomic Diesel) pumps VERY LITTLE water through the exhaust. The thermostat hardly ever opens all the way to pump water. It usually just recirculated the same water.
