Having just launched and first "test" sail of the season on Sunday, I notice that my temp gauge has NO reading! I have a Westerbeke 13 A on my '86 Cal-28. It's running fine but what would the steps be to isolate the gauge problem....could it be the sender, the gauge itself. etc? I've checked the connections on the back of the gauge and they are fine. Anyone know where the sender is located? Thanks...Steph

Real quick initial testing would include removing the wire from the sending unit and grounding it on the engine block. This should peg your gauge. Check all connections. I would remove and reinstall all wires. If you have an ohmmeter, you can test the sending unit.

Try..

The gauges are made by Teleflex and the Red International series are great replacements minus the word "Westerbeke" and minus about $60.00.

At last check you could pick up a Teleflex gauge for about $20.00 +/-. I have found it very rare that a sending unit just stops working but gauges tend to fail in that manner.

Maine Sail and Tim, thanks for your suggestions. I'll give them a try this weekend. Steph
