Dear Peggy, Just wanted to let you know that the aft head is now "fixed". Tried all of your suggestions from back on 9/16. The hose from the toilet to the holding tank was full of "rocks". Snaked it from both end and then blew it out with the fresh water hose (very pleasant job). But.....it works! I periodically run white vinegar through the system and thought that would prevent the build up. I guess it needs to be done more often. Thanks very much for your help. To prevent buildup in the hose,

you need to flush clean fresh water, followed by a cupful of white vinegar down the toilet once a week or each time you close up the boat, whichever is most frequent. As you've seen, "periodically" (which I suspect means "when you happened to think of it") isn't often enough to do any good. The sea water and any crystals that have begun to take hold must be rinsed out every time the boat will sit, or--if you live aboard--at least once a week. Do NOT leave vinegar sitting in the bowl...that will destroy the joker valve. Flush it through the hose.
