Lets see how long it takes for state and local governments to adjust their mask requirements.

their mast requirements
I know what you meant....

We heard on the radio this morning that the Oregon Governor has recognized the new CDC directive.

Look @dlochner reviewed on the Covid-19 thread this morning, this new information while science based, can have detractors and self appointed enforcers.

We have had such a flood of fear based reporting over the past 14 months that I feel the freedom loving American Spirit has been wounded.

Lets hope that the changes play to the positive side of our communal psyche.

Yep, the cost has been over half a million deaths. We're not done with this virus yet and with prudence we can enjoy many of the activities we have in the past.

While America has a "freedom loving spirit" it has a very short attention span and often rushes to quick and often incorrect assessments. The American spirit sometimes ignores the big picture and focuses on the here and now. What's that saying about when you are up to your ass in alligators, it is hard to remember the mission was to drain the swamp. Let's not forget that we're here to eliminate the virus and what it will take to do that while not being overly burdensome. It is fine line that is not carved in stone.

My message is let's continue to be prudent, follow the science and data and realize we may take 3 steps forward and one back from time to time.

As a man of Science and with a lifetime of experience, even if you are not virologist or an expert in epidemics, I am pretty sure you know that the idea of "Eliminating the Virus", is a fools goal.

If that is your goal then the need for a sterile bubble would be best considered. Just like draining the swamp doesn't eliminate the alligators they just move to a more compatible environment waiting to return, when the virus was released it will persist in some form in nature.

Regarding the American Spirit, I take a more optimistic view of it's nature. It is not focused on rushing in without regard. It is a positive viewpoint of what can be. It encompasses the concept of critical thinking and equal opportunity - not equity for some. It shuns the idea of "you must agree with me or be shunned/canceled". It looks at our past and recognizes we are and have been human beings. With that we have faults. Some of them have manifested themselves in our heritage. But in order to build a better future we must not cancel our history.

If I was to enter into a space while sneezing with a viral infection, I would wear the mask, to do what masks have done for the medical profession. Stop the provider from infecting a sterile field. If I know I am entering into a viral infected space, then a prudent action would be to wear a respirator to prevent inhaling the virus.

But to go walking outside in the park, go sailing on a boat, or down a street wearing a mask - to me - does not make sense.

We have been mask free for 30 days and even the Coastal Casinos are free of masks too.
No Covid deaths in 40 days.

Fast recovery for those who get it.

I think only two viral epidemics have ever been completely eradicated - Polio and Cholera. We continue to live with the rest without masks, just like we will do with Covid 19.

If anyone believes masks will keep them safe, I would suggest they look at how ubiquitous masks have been in Japan and the rise in infection they currently enjoy.
