Why no lube? The CDI instructions don’t mention anything about lubing the plastic to stainless bearing on their furlers. It would seem the running characteristics of any bearing surface would be improved with lubrication.
That stainless on delrin is a pretty good bearing surface, especially for the CDI type without any halyard load. try if you wish, it probably won't hurt anything, but if you have difficulty furling, you have problems elsewhere.
The fitting does not need be lubricated. (pg. 14-instruction manual)
CDI unit without the torlon balls uses a HDPE main bearing which rides against the s/s plate. The manufacturer does not recommend the use of wet lubricants on any part of the unit. Dry lubricants are fine if you wish, but are not required. HDPE has a smooth surface which is "self lubricating". That's the same material they use to make the white poly cutting boards.
We were told by CDI that using lube will attract dirt and cause more problems than it's worth. They prefer just washing them out with fresh water to keep the bearing surfaces clean and in good order. Jeff
furlers, it's best to check your owner's manual for lubing instructions. My Furlex 200, for example, has a page devoted in the manual for how to service/lube the upper swivel and the bearings in the drum.
