Well am no longer bored. Fog lifted yesterday morning aroung 10. Off we go, across the bay and into the C&D. About 1 mile into the C & D and the engine dies. YEAH WHAT A PLACE FOR THAT. No wind at all. Thirty seconds later it cranks right back up. Runs good for a few minutes, the quits again. Could keep it running around 1200 so thats the way we went to the closest marina. Thankfully it wasn't far. At first I kind of suspected the fuel guage was off, and we were running out of diesel, as tank was a little low. Had planned on stopping at this marina for fuel anyway. When we tried to put fuel into it, vent hose was stopped up again. Got a slip for the night, and tore the vent line apart. Never did find anything in it. But again, all seemed well. And Tony B can really appreciate this. Boat has two fuel filters, two electric pumps, several shut offs and lots of fuel line going everywhere. Took off this morning and it did fine for about two hours, then BINGO, it quit again. This time cracked the filler cap, to eliminate or confirm the vent line. No deal, another hour, and it quit. Then me finds a switch for a fuel pump. Not sure which pump I turned on, but that cured the problem, at least for the rest of the day. And no, not a fuel filter. Changed both already, and didn't help. Besides that, if it is a filter, I don't have another. Got out of the C & D and are anchored up tonight just north of Annapolis. I thing that with any luck, three more days will have us in Norfolk. Three good days will do the trick, four if the weather Gods are against us.

Air?

Don't know the whole history (seems like there's a long one.) but it sounds like there may be air bubble(s) getting into your fuel line somewhere. Putting the second pump on may have put enough pressure into the system to keep the air out (?) I would look for fuel leaks ANYWHERE. If fuel can get out, air can get in. Bleeding the system might help confirm (or deny) this.

Hang on!

Friday there's supposed to be gale warnings on the bay. Reef early and enjoy the ride. Maybe a 2 day white knucke trip.

Who Engineered the Fuel System?

Quote--Boat has two fuel filters, two electric pumps, several shut offs and lots of fuel line going everywhere... Then me finds a switch for a fuel pump. If that is your boat, figure out and understand the fuel system and simplify it if possible. The fuel system should be fairly simple and straight forward unless you have added a polishing system. The engine's fuel pump should be sufficient to power the system without extra electric pumps. Bill

Figure it out

Working on figuring out what is going on with this system now. Had no idea the fuel pumps were there. Have found one on off switch so far, and another label that says 1 and 2, but no switch for it. Some of you have no idea how screwed up some of these things can get.Just ask Tony B. What a nightmare. Tony'sboat has 27 valves on the head system, and that is the gospel truth, three pages of instructions on how to start the engine, and the fuel system was a nightmare. I will get it sorted out and working as it should. But that is a little difficult when you are in a major shipping channel, with no wind and too deep to anchor. So, you make do as best you can till the time comes when it can be done right.
