I had my A-4 professionally rebuilt. Stuck it back in my C-30 "Germane" and lo and behold.....................no FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything in the ignition system is new. I have traced all wiring and eliminated every possible problem. A few accomplished mechnical friends of mine have had no luck with the problem either. Any advise? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze Hep. Have you tried these ideas?

Are the points adjusted close to right? After that, I'd check the rotor, condenser, coil, coil wire. I once had a bad rotor on my Atomic 4 on my first boat. I had to put an old one in as a fix. Good Luck

Couple of ideas.

Check the wiring in the distributor. I once had a care go stone dead on the road, when a small wire in the distributor failed. Are you getting voltage to the points? I'm assuming batteries are ok, i.e., you can crank. If you pull a plug and crank it, can you get a spark. This is a simple check and will help isolate your problem to electrical. I'd call the professional who did the rebuild and let him know he's got a failed rebuild until it is running in the boat. Good luck.

Had a problem like that once..

My engine wouldn't fire up. I did a cursory check and everything seemed fine. So I took a good spark plug and grounded the side to the engine then hooked up one of the spark plug wires to it to see if there was a apark when cranked. There was indeed a very weak spark (could see it only in the dark). Problem was the ignition coil. Of course, the rotor, points, or capacitor could bad. If you have good spark when the engine is cranked over these things are probably good. It could also be a timing problem. Perhaps the distributor was installed 180 degrees offset or the firing order could be wrong. That can happen on some engines when they are reassembled. Hope this helps.

Hi: Would vote on the rotor being out of "sync".....Critical to get it back in the right position.....Everything will check out, but if the sequence is out....well.................Give the forum a response as to what it turned out to be....Knowing the end results is critical to our feedback to you...Thanks..DAVE

Another Thought

As good as all of the previous responses are, one more source of assistance is for you to contact www.moyermarine.com. They are very experienced especially on Atomic 4's.

I second Moyer Marine

Concur with Moyer. Best Atomic4 people in the business. If they did your rebuild they stand by it.
