With reference to the rv vent if i brace underneath with a wood frame, would that make the upper deck more rigid and not lose any support for deck

Bill the hatch is on the way ups tuesday, have fun.

The Tyvec house wrap might be good for home made sails, it is pretty sturdy.

Just don't step on it. I had one on "the Implication" and the admiral stepped right on and through it even though the added 2" lettering said "do not step"

I'd like to see a larger pic of these sails. I use the iPhone and iPad app and just can't see the avatar pic well enough

Sad to say, that is a 20 acre lake and I can tell u what time it is by which the wind is blowing. Ever in Waterloo il. I will take u sailing on my little lake. Make sure you bring your beer, a lot of work on the sails. Unless you set u jib with a pulley for self tacking which I set up with a dog runner pulley. Gentlemen I may have a small boat, but I know how to make it simple!!!

Sailing can be so simple or we can make it like a algebra question on the first day of school. Set the sails, point in the general direction of travel, and.........

Before you dig into a project like making sails you may want to check out something used from Sail Warehouse or Bacon Sails (there are others). You can probably purchase something used cheaper than attempting to make them yourself.

She says sailing is too much work. Rather sit in lounge chair with a drink in one hand and her kindle in other...
Well....at least she's supportive of your interests not just thinking of herself...

Great job making use of what you've got and doing whatever it takes!

I dont think you can anywhere close. I looked at used sails for my 222, the cheapest ones I found which were admittedly "worn" or needing some repair, were still over $300 each. Cheapest used main ive seen was over $400.

In contrast a $20 or $30 poly tarp, some cord, a $20 grommet tool kit, some double sided tape/adhesive, and a few hours fiddling around, and voilà! You have a sail.

And along the same lines of free sailing, or at least keeping from destroying anything expensive, all these modern boats have steel cable shrouds and stays, which offer almost ZERO give to shock loads. We read almost daily of chain plates being ripped out. For thousands of years man has used rope for that purpose, me wonders if it would be so bad to use today.

I'll second that. Besides, she may still come around to it. Maybe ask her to steer. There is something about the tiller, the vibration of the water, the energy it feeds back, that coupled with the boat and the sound in the sails, it brings a boat alive in your hand and makes you a sensual part of the boat. She may just put down that drink and fall in love.

You may be able to find sails really cheap from ebay or bacon and associates.

Also, just being able to fashion an inexpensive sail you could carry them aboard for "just in case".

I think a home-made-sail race would be a lot of fun. You could sail what you brought but all sails would have to be home made.

My little girl loves sailing, she watches the depth finder to see how shallow we are getting. She yells out"tacking" and she moves the boat into deeper water. Now she loves to watch the rudder and tiller and how one simple move can move the boat. She is ten and loves the sailboat. One day I would like to see her a a big sailboat.
