Yup, the dingy davit project is a little stalled as my buddy is getting warts cut out of his foot.
I got this project almost knocked out though, a rudder/tiller for my Walker Bay. I was GIVEN this one from a sunfish, but it was to short to the waterline. I had been studying the one they had in stock at West Marine, so I pretty much knew what I needed to make.
I made a cardboard pattern first then went to the whiteboard and cut, sanded, drilled and knocked this out in an afternoon. I bought the board from the surplus in Daytona when I was down there.

Since that went so well I tackled the sail, I also have had a mast and boom from when I worked at West several years ago, I was given it after it nevershowed in inventory :) I pulled out the little old sail I picked up some years ago free from someplace, I don't even remember. I have a nice selection of sails collected over the years for little boats. I cut off about 18" from the bottom, wrapped the mast and tack stitched the sleeve type set up the walker bay uses, you just slide the mast up a sleeve in the sail, it is loose footed.
Now just some stitching with a machine and I am in business.
I did order a mast support tube and acouple other parts from walker for 54 dollars.
Walker Bay sail kit = $795 Mine $73.00

I hope the davits go this well, I know the 2x2 alum. tube will be $75.00 for a 20 foot stick.
