I just bought the 3" Nicro day/night plus. It is going into the fore deck ( just ahead of the mast on my Hunter 28.5 - there's a light curve to the deck so I got the "fixed " unit with the 4 "feet" rather than the rounded flat pith helmet style. I figure the removable would catch the jib lines under the "floating edges" of the mushroom and over the side it will eventually go!. the fixed & "footed" unit on a curved deck provides less opportunity for the jib line to get caught under the rim- or so I hope. There's not much info at nicro/ marinco about how to get these up and running -I left sitting "charging" in direct sunlight for a day- switched it to ?on? and nothing turns - prop is free floating. What am I missing - the motor and battery are hermetically sealed - (I think) from the looks of it. There's not much of anything under the solar panel I figure on using vinyl anchor sleeves on the deck screws- so there's less chance of cracking the 3 deck fastening holes.I was really disappointed that nicro/marinco has no informational specifics/pdf on this unit- in the box or on their website. If you sealed the deck cutout - what did you use? I thought to use autobody filler to seal the deck core "wall" within the cutout shaft. I like working with that better than the marine deck patch epoxy mix- and nobody sees it either. Also I am concerned if there may be any embedded wires in the H28.5 deck just fore of the mast that I gotta worry about. I stand with my feet spread when I douse the main so there's little chance of stepping on the solar unit- unless I'm a complete idiot. Thanks for any info you might volunteer.
