Hey guys, I have three Nico solar vents. Two have battery backups for night time. These work when the sun is out but the batterys are dead. I replaced the batterys with normal batterys and they still will not work out of the sun. Do the batterys have to be the same as what came out, rechargeble C , or should a normal C battery work. I cant find the voltage indicator on the rechargeble batterys but would ASSuMe them to be 1.5 volts. thanks for any help. Howard

DO N OT put non-rechargables

in a charger, they could go "pop". Your battery style nicos are a solar charger, applying voltage to the batteries.

I havent had the non rechangeables in the sun in the unit. i had them on my bench at home testing the unit and wiring to see if the batterys would turn the fan motor. thanks for reminding me of that though.

Radio Shack Sell them

You can buy rechargeable batteries at Radio Shack or almost any other type of electronics / hardware place. Agree - only put in rechargeble batteries. Rob

Take your "old" batteries with you

Take your old batteries with you as I believe Radio Shack stocks two types of rechargeable batteries and only one type will work with your fans. Ian s/v Meant to Be

My guesses

would be either corrosion on the battery terminals, a blown fuse somewhere (if exists) in the battery circuit, or a faulty indicator/switch that controls whether it is running from the solar panel or the battery. It should work with normal batteries on your bench (given everything else is okay). Good luck!

nicro vent batteries

they're 1.5 volt c size nicads, any brand will work-but if they're not turning with a regular c cell, you've got another problem. I'd check for corrosion on the contacts and look for crud on the motor shafts-they don't have much power. BTW, nicro is really good on support, they'll send you free replacement gaskets on request, and you can replace the covers (but not the motor or solar cell assy) very reasonably

Like Chris Said

Do NOT put primary (non-rechargable) batteries into the Nicro Day&Nite Solar Vents. The batteries will drive the fan, but the solar charger will destroy the battery. Use only a NiCad battery in the solar vent.

Thank you for all the advice. with clean contacts the normal battery will not turn the fan. the solar panel drives the fan with no problems so i have to believe i have a problem with the battery wiring. i will contact Nico and go from there. thanks again.
