Just got back from a two week jaunt. Sailing on friends Hunter 36. We didn't go too far, just as far east as Panama city, and never got in a hurry. Made some new friends, and met the woodster over in Fairhope. Let me tell you something. Anyone who doubts this mans work with wood, needs to take a look at his boat. I mean that thing is SWEET.

Went from the Grand to Cat Island and got in there just before dark. Cat Island to New Orleans, and were in the slip by 4:30. And John was looking at ice makers and a convection microwave before we even got back.
I enjoyed meeting and talking to you. And that boat of yours is SWEET.

You spent the night at Cat Island? Whereabouts? What was the wind direction? I like to go there, but it seems there aren't many protected spots to anchor.

Sandy,
On the north side. You can snug in behind the north T part of the island. As long as the wind is from the S, SE, or SW your pretty protected. Watch the depth. It goes from 10 feet to a foot pretty quick.
Smugglers Cove on the S side used to be a super nice anchorage, and one of my favorites. But after Katrina, I hear it's shoaled up a bunch, and haven't tried to get in there.

Thanks. Yeah, I used to like Smugglers Cove too, but it's history. Last year we anchored off the beach with a WNW wind, it was great, but don't let the wind shift. BTDT.

Sailaway: Raced many dirt bikes in Flattrack and M/X. Ran them in competition until I was 50. I like your picture! Chief

Hi Chief,
Have ran many, many flat tracks, TT's, cross country, enduro, and some MX. My last race was a birthday present to myself for the big 70. My son and I entered a 6 hour endurance race on pit bikes. Some MX track, and some cross country. 6 PM till Midnight. We won the two hour and four hour segments, but I physically couldn't make my last hour on the bike. Forearms cramping pretty good, and I really didn't want to get hurt. LOL The pic is of a very good friend, who I have known since he was about 5 years old. Terry Poovey, Nat'l. number 18.

Sailaway: Really neat that you have also done so much racing. Did all you mentioned except enduros but also did marathons, desert races and hare n hound runs. Was AMA #6 Arizona. Physically could ride them still but blind in right eye so depth perception is gone. Flagged Hangtown for about 10 yrs. Son (Todd Cash) won Hangtown and #1 CMC California open intermediate class champion. 2nd son was Vet class CMC #3, N. Cal. They were fast!
My best, Chief

I never did any desert racing, but at one time did quite a bit of riding, and sort of non organized buddy racing. That was between 56 and 60, when I was in the AF, stationed at Davis Monthan. Had an AJS 500 single, and for a short time a Velocette 350 single. Also went drag racing in 68. Won the AHRA nationals in 68, on a Yamaha twin stuffed into a 125 Harley Hummer frame. But it was just to costly both in time and money, for a few 10 second runs a week.
