I like that topping lift arrangement. It's very similar to what came with my boat except that I have a line inside my boom that I can use to control my topping lift at the goose neck fitting while standing at the mast reefing my Mainsail.

Ha! I didn't see that. I think mine is set up to do that only I don't. I wondered what that extra cheek block and cleat was for!

I used to rave about and recommend Bruce Bingham's book "The Sailor's Sketchbook" on this forum quite a bit. The book may gone out of print but as soon as soon as they had a lot of guys requesting it, the price went from it's original $ 9.95 to well over $100. At any rate, I picked up a lot of nice ideas for mods in that book.

Sounded like a good book so I just jumped over to Amazon. New is $185, used copies are low as $16.95. I chose a used/like new copy for $40. (wanted to get as clean a copy as I could).
Something for me to read and get ideas for my spring time projects.

I think you'll like the book Ward. The illustrations in it are superb and the ideas can be adapted to work on any sailboat.
Wow, $185!!! They make you laugh, don't they? It's a nice book to own but not at that price. Unbelievable! :neutral:

You're right. You got to have the cat and the mouse.

Years ago I recommended this book highly on this forum which probably contributed to the demand for it on the web. I suppose that with the book being out of print, and the demand growing greater, it caused the greedy price gougers to emerge from under their rocks.

What I'd like to see is the manufacturers in this country start making more useful items that we sailors can use.
A lot of guys on these forums who own keel/centerboard sloops and want to trailer them are always asking, "how can I convert a powerboat trailer into a sailboat trailer?" The answer to that question is simple. long adjustable heavy duty bunk extension brackets and a couple of sandwiched pressure treated planks for the keel to sit on.

Long Trailer Co. out of Tarboro NC which went out of business several years ago manufactured the best brackets I've ever seen on the market today. Here's some pics of the ones on my trailer. Now I ask. Why can't some company out there manufacture these brackets?

You can't believe how easy it was to adjust that trailer to fit my boat. I used my bathroom scale, two of my boat stands and a couple of jacks along with some wooden blocks.

I had the bunks set up a little higher before floating the boat on and pulling her up the ramp. Higher is better than too low. I didn't want the boat tipping over when I pulled her up the ramp. Consequently the keel was about two inches off the keel planks with the bunks holding the weight of the boat. As soon as I was able to get the proper tongue weight which required backing down and moving the boat fore or aft after weighing the tongue with trailer disconnected from the towing vehicle, all I had to do was lower the boat with my boat stands on the stern and jacks and move the winch stanchion. I think it took less than an hour to do this at the club.

Hey Keith! Sorry to rob your thread. Maybe some guy out there who knows what happened to the Long Trailer Co. machinery that manufactured these brackets will put a bug in someone's ear and start producing these brackets.
Yesterday I emailed another Long Trailer Co. in that state and asked them about manufacturing these brackets. This outfit is not affiliated with the company of the same name in Tarboro NC but they do sell trailer parts. Hey nothing ventured nothing gained right?
