do you have any information on who to get help from on moving all the boats in our area that are out of water. i know ya'll just went through all of this in katrina/rita. did you have help from state, feds, or insurance. we want to help our club by having all the info on our site we can. if you or anyone else can help, please let us know.

There is nothing that I am aware of other than marina slips. And there may not be a lot of them. Most that are back up and operating are pretty full. Far as I know there is no help from the gummit, or any other entity. You are pretty much on your own far as I know. TonyB may have some info on this also, as he was here during Katrina and lost his boat. Other than the marinas, there are lots of homes here where I live, that have docks and no boat. Might be possible to tie up to some of them, for a very small fee, but it would almost take a door to door inquiry to find them. Might place a small add in the local paper, and ask. I could do this if you would like, and see if there is any response. Other than that I don't know of anything else. There are only two travel lifts that I am aware of operating on the north shore. If there is anything more I can do, just let me know.

Will keep my eyes peeled for anything available around here. I have a neighbor who has his house for sale, and is not living there. Another across the canal who does not have a boat tied up. Will check with them. And can ask around the neighborhood for others. Let me know if you think anyone will want to come this far. I think the guy next door will say no, and the other one probably yes. You are right as there may be nothing any closer. I would suggest Lake Charles but I think they got slammed too. I have not heard anything from bob, but all I have heard from made it fine.

Mike, in New Orleans and St Bernard Parish, most of the boats were moved by private salvage companies under contract with the insurance companies or with FEMA. I think some were moved by the Corps Of Engineers too.. There was a political problem at the beginning in that the City of New Orleans Levee Board had cut an exclusive deal with a couple of small “favored” companies.. Insurance companies bringing in their own salvors were turned away.. That was settled after about 3 weeks when it became obvious that the “favored” companies could not begin to handle the magnitude of the problem. Then the Levee Board was sort of dissolved because of the levee problems that are still being fought about.. I don’t know what the political situation is in Port Arthur, but most likely, the insurance companies will mobilize some contractors to move them.

Co. stuff. These are nothing but theives hiding under the cloak of a legal salvage company. One of the marina tenants was a State Trooper and his wife worked in the Gov's office. They called the Gov. and the sheriff. The Sheriff ran them out of the harbor. Every slug that ever lived under a rock comes out during a disaster.
