Phillip called me this morning. He and Lois are in Myrtle Beach, S.Carolina. We had a bad Cell Phone connection, probably from my end, but not sure. Pretty much all I could get was that they were kickin back and resting for a few days. All is well. They intend to be over the Florida line in about 7 or 8 days. His cell phone to computer connection is giving him problems and he cant seem to get on the internet. As he calls me, I will relay his progress on this site. Tony B

Looks like I might miss him...just barely

I'm heading to St. Petersburg in a few minutes...then to Key West, then to Cancun, then back to Kemah. Just got my anchor and it's hugh...definately strong.

Franklin could you share your plans

from key west to Cancun, like guides or charts (books) that you are using? How long you are going to be at sea? etc? Thanks Velero

I made it 20 miles offshore to find out that my combiner wasn't working and the generator would start but kept dying on me. I went back into the bay and anchored out overnight. This morning I fixed the combiner problem so I can charge my batteries but I have decided to cancel the trip for now. I'm loosing my weather window and I don't feel comfortable going out without a backup charging option. As for my plans....was to sail southeast to get to 500' which is supposed to clear the majority of rigs, then head east to St. Petersburg, staying just a few miles outside the shipping lanes. I have a few anchoring options at St. Petersburg but was going to make my decision after seeing them in person. Next was to leave St. Petersburg and go south along the Fl shore. Am interested in the National park down there. Once in Key West I would anchor on the west side. I used Google Satelitte pictures to see where others anchored and then checked them on the charts. My charts were the RNC downloads from NAOO site and used SeaClear to hook up to my handled GPS. That's the tip of the iceburg of my planning but obviously, not enough. Nexttime I will perform a pre-inspection of EVERYTHING before I depart. This time I was in a rush and actually left 5 hours late. More later....gotta pic up anchor and head back to Kemah. BTW: Anchor performed wonderfully but I still have lots more testing to do. So did the new kellet. After putting the kellet on, the rode went stright down. No more rode wrapped around the keel for me.
