Ok, let's see how resourcefull you guys/gals really are. I am in the market for a new(to me) boat that has the following characteristics: 31-35ft rear enclosed cabin fin keel(no CB or wing keels) sails well to her PHRF rating(I love to race) tiller steering(I know, not likely) beautiful interior sloop rig(prefer masthead but will consider fractional) around $50k high build quality above all the boat should be geared towards sailing not live aboard. So far I have found 2 boats that come close but they are both very rare and hard to find in my area. Hopefully you can find some more. I will tell you what they are after I hear some responses. Beneteau First 32?

There are a couple of these for sale - and its water from them to you. Cheap, too. Maybe too much water to travel over with winter comming on? Does the rear enclosed cabin eliminate the J's?

I love Js

But they do not seem to have the comfort level I am looking for in the price range. Tim R.

Good One

One of the boats I identified was the E34. I like the rear head on the E34. Tim R.

Other than tiller!

Hi Tim, You dont want much .... Here is a potential winner. Its an Elite/Kirie 32. I have one and they are great to sail, look good (I think) and sail well against their PHRF. They have an OK aft (private) cabin, forward has door also, and are generally finished with nice elm's and teak. We purchased as it was a racer/fast cruiser above deck and very cruiser below. I often single hand without any issue. If you really wanted you could pull the wheel and run a proper tiller off the e-tiller point - maybe. E. PS This is not my boat!

Here's what I have found

The Pearson P33-2(1986-1990) and the Ericson 34(1987+?) Tim R.

Columbia's

I think the Columbia 9 meter's have a reputation for being good cruiser-racers (see link) and seem to fit your parameters:

the Kirie Elite is s good boat for your needs....how about the Tartan 33?? Good PHRF and room below. can be had for under 50,000 (for that matter under 30,000) Pearson 34 J30 -it's still a good racing/cruising boat WITH a TILLER J35- under 50,000 with Tiller (less cruising below) Beneteau First 345s

Look at J-30 or S2 9.1

There are lots of J-30s around, they are quite fast (or were when they were first produced), have a tiller and minimal interior accomodations. There are a couple hundred (or less) S2 9.1s around. They were disigned by Grahm and Schlaghter in about 1980, so are a little dated, but sail fairly competitively to their rating. Production of these boats was discontinued in about 1985. A third option is a Hobie 33. DOn't know how many of these were built, but they are very fast and trailerable. Steve Alchemist C-320

Good racers

Those 2 are definately good racers but at the other end of the spectrum for creature comforts. My P28 is competitive against the S2. Never raced a J30 but I know they are fast. My boat is much more comfortable than both of these. Tim R.
