Newsletter

Hi Chuck Rose,

This is a letter with 'good luck' from Holland. Since november
1999 I had very often e-mail contact with Sid. We 'talked' about the
Vega and about many other things. When I sent a mail, 24 hours later I got one
back.
His last e-mail he sent me on the 17th of May, mailing that he
was going to the Weight Watchers and that he was hoping having lost 10 pounds;
the next day he died. If you are interested in this letter I can mail it to
you.

My name is on the list in the last newsletter (which I
shall keep as a treasure). So, if you send your first newsletter in August,
please remember me and send me one.

Sidney got always our Vega Bulletin (three newsletters per
year) and he said to me: "it's not a newsletter, it's a magazine". If you like
to get it (although you can't read it), please mail me your address and it will
be done.
Sid asked me to translate a Dutch poem which was in
a Vega Bulletin. I did it, but it was too late.

By the way, do you have an e-mail address of Shelly
Baum?

Do you know that the 18th International Friendship Regatta
starts on the 17th of July in Hoorn, the Netherlands? Ross Dring will join us. A
pity that no more Americans can come over here. Sixty Vega's from 9 nations in
Europe will come to Hoorn for this week. If you (or others) want more
information about this Regatta I can send you our Programme-book, that I
made, as attachment.

Again from Holland: we wish you good luck with your
newsletter and appreciate that you take over this task from
Sidney!

Hopely my English is not too bad.

Ciao,
Yvonne Barnasconi and Hartmut Hinkel..

Hey Chuck:

Just got the latest newsletter, brought it in from the mailbox, sat down and
read it from cover to cover. Really impressive! You're doing a wonderful job.
I'm already looking forward to the next issue with a lot of anticipation,
especially for the continuation of the article on "beefing up" the Vega for
offshore work.

Other than glossy paper and full color, ;-) I can't think of a thing you could
do to improve the newsletter. Thanks!

Aloha Kakou!

Mele Kalikimaka e Hauoli Maka iki Hou!

You may have noticed that there has been no newsletter for quite some
time. I won't burden you with details (or excuses) but I think you
are entitled to some explanation so here goes:

When I took over publication of the Newsletter, I was working a
pretty straightforward 40 hour a week schedule and felt that I was
winding down my career, easing my way into early retirement. I spent
most of my time at work doing mostly nothing much and actually spent
a lot of time just surfing the net. I had plenty of time for a new
hobby. About six months after I got the first issue out, for some
inexplicable reason, my boss called me to his office, called
me "Charlie" and gave me a ludicrously huge raise and a new suite of
duties and responsibilities that have left me with hardly enough time
to get my laundry done. This year I made the mistake of taking a
longer than usual vacation, partly so I could attend both the
Nor'East Albin Cruisers Rendezvous in Jamestown, RI and the
VEGAtarians Rendezvous at Lopez Island, WA. Since then it's been an
endless series of airports, hotels and long hours at the office
trying to catch up on paperwork. Did I mention computer problems?
Let's not start on that.

Some of you know that I am in the motorcycle business and much of my
work involves the folks in Milwaukee so this time of year I usually
get a breather. I'll have relative peace now until mid January when
I have to go to Orlando for ten days of meetings and new product
intros prior to cranking up again for the spring season.

The Good News: I have 24 pages of newsletter, plus the membership
list almost ready for the printer and half a day tomorrow to finish
it up. It usually takes me two days to get the printing, folding and
mailing done so I am hoping to get it out to you soon.

I will be putting this issue up on the web too. My Tripod site was
shut down because I failed to maintain my hotmail account but I'll
fix that and post the new URL here for everyone. My plan is to offer
the web-based version to everyone free. For those who still want or
need the printed version, I will ask for contributions to cover the
cost of printing and mailing. The CD will be updated as promised to
include Tony Skidmore's original manuscript and more.

Aloha,

Dear Chuck,

Of course I missed your AlbinVega Newsletter.

Your detailed explanation is quite clear. You work should have
priority.
Congratulations on your promotion. Being a mostest person, you did not call
it a promotion.

You idea to publish the Newsletter on the web is fine , as far as I am
concerned. I can print it myself in Holland from your site.

However, I donot mind paying for it, as I did for the printed version.
Maybe you should ask for a voluntary contribution.

I wish you good luck,

Happy sailing,

Henk Jansen
V.1680.
PS Of course I am interested in your updated CD Rom in due time.

I'm still hanging around the group...First of all...a very Happy New
Year to all VEGAtarians, hope to see many of you in 2005...Thanks for
the newsletter Chuck, however I am miffed that you were not able to
find space for our new boat "Putachieside", after all it is just a
bigger Vega...So...I am uploading for those who are interested...and,
what about next (this) year...I see there is an enthusiastic new
member in Powell River, Judy and Ken have been up the BC Coast, time
for Mitzi and Bear to brave Dodds Narrows, Bill Bach should come on
up to see us etc, etc...what abour New Castle Island Marine Park in
Nanaimo??? Beautiful place. Let me know if any of you are
interested...

Cheers - Brian and Diana

Vegatarians:

I would second Brian's suggestion of Newcastle Marine Park for next
year's get together. Partly because I happen to live on Protection
Island in Nanaimo harbour and just across the watery street from
Newcastle Island, but mostly because it is a fantastic place to visit.
If people are interested, I can do a little preliminary nosing around
locally to explore the feasibility of holding the event there next
year.

Hi Garry...We haven't met but I am sure all the West Coast
VEGAtarians would be pleased to have you check out the possibility of
tying up to the dock at Newcastle for a 2005 Rendezvous...

Cheers - Brian

I'm sorry about that Brian. I really just couldn't work it out, but I'll be sure to squeeze it in the next issue and I'll Put ALL of your photos in the permanent photo album. Checking the maps to see where you're talking about - we're pretty much up for anything.
