We have a yearly race from Newport Beach to Ensenada, Mexico. It attracts hundreds of entrants. It started today with over 450 boats of all sizes and design. The attached picture shows the fleet. The two tallest and dark sailed boats belong to Dennis Conner's group. One is his Stars and Stripes. They sailed down from Long Beach, flying spinnakers. The size of these sail and their corresponding large roach mains was impressive. They quickly spun through the boats, went out about two miles and returned to where they started. I saw one red HC50 from nearby Marina del Ray. The boat would be my dream for open ocean racing. The weather was perfect with lots of wind. John Richard s/v Jack's Place
