Newport ,Martha's Vineyard Trip

We really liked Westport. One year we arrived with 16 boats and the harbormaster saw us coming rode out to meet us because one of the markers was missing. The last time there we had a horrible storm it was like a tornado, we were rafted on moorings spinning in circles. One friend had his headsail get half out it was destroyed, others had stansion and gel coat damage.We met a gent on a boat named Trooper who gave us a tour of his boat and we subsequently bought a like model.

Nick - When I went to the viveyard we stayed at Vineyard haven. I am not sure what your looking for but its nice and quiet there but all the restaurants are dry. Oak bluff is a happening harbor with boats rafted 3-4 per mooring and the harbor is completely surrounded by restaurants and bars. If your looking for nightlife stay there. Eadgartown is really nice too and somewhat in between. I recall the bigger yachts came into that harbor and anchored just outside the entrance. If I also recall - Vineyard Haven was the cheapest harbor for moorings but I could be wrong.

Get a mooring at Vineyard and you can easily ride the bus, cab or bike south and check out the other harbors....if you want to move after a night.

From Greenport w/ 2 weeks I would try the following: Greenport to Block. Block Island to Martha's Vineyard. On the way back try CuttyHunk and Newport. That would give you easy legs for each of the destinations. I did Greenport - Newport in a full day-sail (~10 hours or so w/ light winds).

PS - Hopefully I will run into you someday on the water...I sail out of Mattituck (Rum Swizzle - Catalina 30). I've been meaning to bring her up to Mitchel Park Marina but we have 2 very small kids so we've been limited lately.
