Newport Beach Harbor Help

I'm looking at the chart for Newport harbor and I see the Anchorage Areas listed around Balboa & Lido Islands. Is anyone familiar with them and the rules involved? Are there restrictions? I'm asking because I'm thinking that it might be a nice place to stop for a nite or two.

Newport Beach Harbor Info

... Those areas are for moorings. The harbor patrol is administered by the Orange County Sheriff's Dept. and controls the guest docking/mooring for Newport Beach Harbor. Actually the moorings are very reasonable to rent, as is the guest slips by the Harbor patrol headquarters. Anchoring Newport

The area just south of Lido Isle and north of Bay Isle is an anchorage. It is marked by 4 yellow buoys marked A through D and is 7-8 feet deep. Anchoring is free for up to 5 days. It may be busy if NHYC is having a race, if another YC is having a cruise, or if it's just a nice summer day. You can always take a look and then contact the Harbor Patrol for a guest mooring. As Joe already mentioned, they are very reasonable and usually available.

Balboa Island mooring....

I'm 5th generation Balboa Island.. so- I'd said I'm pretty partial..but- its a wonderful place to go. My dock neighbors from L.A. are there now- they got moorings there for $5.00 a nice. Pretty sweet deal! Try to get to the Crab Cooker for dinner, if you like seafood. :)
