New Year + new member

Dear all,
I do hope 2001 will be good and kind to you and all the persons dear
to you.I also hope this year will bring you the winds you prefer on
the days you can enjoy them.
After ten years of windsurfing (competition) and some occasional
sailing, my wife and I decided to take up sailing and to buy our own
a boat(which we have just done), an Albin Vega 27 from 1969. She (the
boat) still looks very nice although some repairs should be done to
the cockpit. Does anybody have any experience in rebuilding the
cockpit.

I used to own Vega # 321, built in 1968 or 69. The cockpit sole was weak when we got her so I used pressure-treated 2X4 (2inch by 4 inch) lumber, thru-bolted beneath the sole. They simply reinforced the sole that had weakened over time. I used four of them, two fore-and-aft, the other two athwartships at the forward- and after ends of the opening. This did quite well without any visible signs of the repair.
I now own Vega # 1868, built in 1973. She has not yet shown the same weakness.

Welcome aboard Flor!

No matter what challenges you encounter with your Vega, chances are
someone has been there before. Near as I can tell, there are about
seven hundred members of the various Vega owners clubs around the
world and all are eager to share what they've learned. Many visit
this group regularly as you no doubt already know. For more of this
kind of information and help you can join the American Vega Assn. The
AVA publishes a newsletter (A very fine Newsletter if I must say so
myself) six times a year and provides a 110 page "Vega Owners
Maintenance and Repair Manual" (Which includes a chapter on cockpit
gratings and hatch cover replacemant BTW) to new members free of
charge. This is not the owners manual that came with the boat but
rather a compilation of tips and tricks collected over the years by
the members. Membership is just $12 a year for US residents (US$15
for international memberships). Just thought I'd let you know.
