I have a brand new 3YM30AE which I am most happy with However when I shut down the engine with the off button on the panel and the engine in neutral there is a clung sound for a split second I asked my dealer and he said it is the shaft making the noise because of the fast shut down My question is this normal

Does this happen every time or is it intermittent?

Did the dealer tell you which shaft is making this noise? Or how shafts could make such noises? Seems like it can't be the propeller shaft since it is not moving. Gearbox output shaft is sitting still too.

Can your dealer obtain written reports from Yanmar - or anybody else - verifying this phenomenon?

I would like to suggest that you contact Yanmar technical and give them a description of the concern. Your engine is new and should be under warranty.

Check

Can you have some one down below listening for the noise when you shut down
and what is the idle RPM and maybe the idle RPM is high.
