i like the hood

Chet, I like the hood 808, just put one on my 37c and it works great, you will need the long extension on the bottom. the system has a large diameter leading edge but it rolls fast and great. As for sails i would stay over here to buy mine. A. we need the business, 2. you have great lofts in tampa and St. Pete. and if you have a problem they are nearby to deal with them. Tom Barry at sailing technologies is good and so is Dennis Velinga in Tampa. Dennis is a previous h-37c owner and had his really set up nice. ED

...They gave me best service/price 2 years ago on my L37. Also, all American with short lead time.

Offshore yankee?

I like Paul's and dmc's sentiments about buying American. I do that with my cars at least. But when I bought my new oversize yankee from Lee it was half the price. And they bent over backwards to get it right, even paying for the return shipment of the original. They said they did not need it, that they knew how to sew a yankee. But if it made me more comfortable they would lay mine out. They sent samples of the cloth which is the same cloth all the companies use I think, a DuPont dacron. In this case 7.5 ounce. They added almost 20% to the sail area by lengthening the 'J', the measurement perpendicular to the luff through the clew. The workmanship is superb and after six seasons still looks like new. I really wanted to match my North main with a North yankee but not at twice the cost. And it still flies from the original 1979 Hyde Streamstay furler. Just a little lucky I guess.

Ed's Yankee

Ed - what are the measurements of your oversized Yankee? What is the percentage of overlap? Are you pleased with the larger sail?

GOT THE FURLER

well i did the st pete show friday and sat and after much fingernail chewing decided on the harken #1 cruising unit with extended link plates...great deal and got it from JSI...under $1200 even with tax.... still haven't figured out what sail to buy but after talking to several people including the owner of BANKS SAILS who owned and raced sucessfully a 37 cutter, i am now leaning in favor of a 100% yankee...but still buying off shore... price is almost 40% cheaper, just waiting for a quote from rolly tasker and lee...quote from 2 local lofts came in at over $2000 and they say that after the first of the year th prices will be going up because of the price of oil.... dacron=petrolium... need to put up a new headstay and mount the furler before i can spec out the REAL SIZE i need... shall be a busy next few weeks getting it together... will keep you updated and pictures will follow... was going to get a picture of BOB BITCHIN at the show but didn't take my camera... just wanted you guys that are taking your boats out of the water to feel bad.. actually it was cool today...high was only in the 70's and the water temp in the gulf of mexico is DOWN TO 74 degrees... almost wetsuit weather....i hope it doesn't snow soon :) !!!!! later chet p
