Saw this design in ''Sailors Secrets" book .Collection of advice by master sailors.Someone named Don Street designed it.Since we have 2 ft of snow in Chicago ,brought out the Singer and made this. Two 16" 3/4 " flex tubing rings. Two 40" sunbrella 20" at top,14 at bottom sew to make an X.attach four corners at both rings.Hang off jib halyard over front hatch.Should catch breeze from any direction.

Re: wind scoup

I have a 23.5 hunter.I made it to fit inside open hatch over v berth.Raise on jib halyard, because of the X shape it will collect breeze from any direction.Material at top ring is bigger than bottom so it conforms to a scoop. All other wind scoops are staionary so if the wind isn't blowing in direction of opening it actually will stop breeze. Can be changed to fit any opening just change ring sizes.

DJN51, ahhh, now I understand. Was looking at it from horizonally hence thought its a wind-sock. My bad. I think it may work better than the Windscoop I got from WM. :D

Just an observation, at anchor your wind always comes from the same bearing. So unless you have some interesting anchoring means a multi direction wind scoop is kinda counter productive isn't it? if this is for use at the dock just plug in a fan.

I have a friend who made a similar one and it works great. Even better at anchor since it will collect a breeze during a wind shift and while the boat is repositioning into the wind. I have one of those Blue and yellow commercial wind scoops and it will slat and pop during a shift until the boat repositions.

Thanks for sharing

Bill, I tried the Windscoop from WM. Didn't work too well. Wind came and blew the setup and sent the wooden stakes flying into the water.
