Catalina 30 Mark I Stockton, Mo
I had a port like this in the quarter berth of my old 25. It was small and a little stuffy, so the port helped some. It felt good in the morning to have a little breeze blowing in while the boat was still closed up. It added light as well, and helped the boat seem just a wee bit bigger.

In the 30 I was able to rse a Beckson 14" X 7" port, which I think they called "rain proof". It has a beveled lower edge to help drain the rain water.

It is pretty easy to install. Simply mark the hole using the exterior trim ring, then drill some starter holes. I then cut the majority of the hole out using a jig saw. I cleaned up the hole using a Dremel to smooth out the rough edges. I had just a little delamination, which I fixed by dripping in some West System epoxy, then clamped everything together. When it was cured, I installed the port as per the instructions, using 10-24 X 1-1/4" screws with lock washers, plain nuts and acorn nuts to finish it off. It works great, and really adds a lot of light in the quarter berth.

I highly recommend both installations, though, if I had it to do over again, I would get the port with the rain troughs in the lower ledge, because the rain does tend to collect in the lower corner. It doesn't leak, but it would if you were to open it without drying it out first. They also have a rain hood that can be fitted over the port, but it would block the light.

Give it a try, and good luck!
