New Vega owner New to SF Bay

Hi all,

Just purchased a 1972 vega #1493, "freya" formerly "cheers". She is
now on the hard North of Santa Rosa. I am getting her ready for
spring. (combi prop overhaul, bottom paint, etc.) Any other Vegas in
the SF Bay area? How about an association, or a get together?

Has anyone thought of converting the fuel tank in the keel to a head
holding tank, and putting one or two fuel tanks in the cockpit lockers
just behind the galley? Just an idea.

Aloha Larry,

The answer to all of your questions is - Yes.

While there is no Bay Area Vega association, there is the AVA. The
AVA members in the Pacific Northwest (Southwest, eh?) have
been putting on an annual Rendezvous for several years. All it
takes is one person with local knowledge willing to make a few phone
calls and communicate here on the Yahoo group. The AVA will assist
with getting the word out via our website, Albin Vega - The American Vega Association Home

I don't know about converting the fuel tank in the bilge to a holding
tank for sewage, but fuel tanks in the cockpit lockers has definitely
been done. In fact, I believe later Vegas came that way from the
factory. I have toyed with the idea of replacing the bilge mounted
fuel tank in Lealea with one in one of the cockpit lockers.

Everything that was on the AVA CD and more is now on the website,
Albin Vega - The American Vega Association Home . The VORM and Newsletter archive are in the
MemberShip section. I received your dues via PayPal and sent you an
email this morning with the login and password. Some of the files
are rather large so, if you have a slow internet connection and have
difficulty downloading, let me know and I'll send you a CD.

Welcome Larry,
I bought the Tern in San Rafael a year ago October and sailed her
home to Monterey a couple of weeks later. I'm very pleased with her,
and I think you will be pleased with yours as well. I had thought I
would be back up in the bay before this but spent the summer painting
her, a larger project than I had anticipated. I think we both want to
head back up (she tugs expectantly at her mooring when I row out to
her) so perhaps a rendevous would work out.
The Tern has an 18 gal Tempco tank, available from West Marine, in
the port lazarette, and for my use is plenty large. It does affect
the trim. A second tank for water is in the starboard locker but some
folks have moved their batteries back there, to get them out of the
bilge. I don't know about using the old fuel tank as a holding tank
but if you are thinking about a head you might take a look at the KISS
holding tank system, either here on the photos link or with Google.
It looks very clean.

Hey Larry,
I'm the owner of Sjofagel who is berthed at Berkely
Marina. Will Freya eventually be on the Bay? I'd be
up for an Albin Vega raft up.

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for all you do to keep the association operating. Just a quick question, I paid for what I thought was a year membership in December 06. I am now confused as to password change etc. Seems to me as maybe it should have been a pro-rated payment? Please enlighten me. thanks.

Aloha Larry,

All memberships expire with the calendar year but I always give a
grace period of a couple of months to allow for people like you who
join late in the year or for those long-time members who are
habitually tardy with their dues.

Your membership is good until December 2007 and I probably will not
change the password until March or April of 2008.

In case you missed the email I sent on Friday, the login remains
unchanged (sidney). The new password is VODCA
