My Sparcraft Vang (‭37560020505‬) is broken.
I think it's time for a new one.
Can someone recommend me an alternative?

Seldon makes a nice (and expensive one).

what is broken? I rebuilt a Selden recently to replace the gas spring inside.

I see a bad rope…what else is broken?

I got this diagram from Sparcraft.
Item #1 is broken. The plastic is completely torn.
I am currently concerned that has damaged the surrounding areas as well.

I see it now…yes, that looks problematic.

As someone mentioned, Garhauer s a good source, and cheaper than Seldon.

Just buy the parts . What year is the boat ? It lasted this long. Zspar (France ) did supply many Beneteau's , in US (US spars) thats what mine is and no plastic much heavier duty and their parts are reasonable

True, IF the parts are available, replacing those end caps (I would do both ends) would not be too bad…and a lot cheaper.

2 rivets on each end, and you are done.

That vang appears to be spring loaded. The Seldon unit uses a gas spring…which will lose its charge at some point.

I have a 2005 Beneteau Oceanis 473 and the boom is held up by a line to the end of it. The boom vang sheet is loose. I presume that the vang tube running from the bottom of the mast to the boom would have gas or a spring that would require pulling the vang sheet tighter to get the boom to lower. But now, that sheet is always loose and the only thing holding the boom up is the line from the mast to the end of the boom. It interferes with the battens crossing over when I tack. Any ideas? I presume the vang tube needs parts or a replacement. Any information would be appreciated. Is it gas or a spring inside and can I get parts to repair it? Is there a brand that fits. How to get the sail to tack without getting caught on the line to the end of the boom.

It depends on the manufacturer. Do you know what brand of rigid vang your boat has?
Seldon is a popular one, but we would need to know for sure.

I got a used Seldon vang, and found that the gas spring inside was seized. I was able to disassemble the vang and replace the gas spring.

As far as the topping lift (line from end of boom to the top of the mast), if it is adjustable (most are), you can try to loosen it when sailing so the sail doesn’t snag on it.

Once the vang is fixed, you could really do away with the topping lift. On my boat, I use the halyard as a topping lift while in the marina just to take the weight off the vang. But when sailing, I don’t have a topping lift.
