I am seriously considering the new full batten Ullman mainsail for my Standard Rig 1984 Catalina 30. My question has to do with the unusual luff slide arrangement Ullman uses. Rather than the small shackle attached to the plastic slide method they use a strap with 2 eyelets and alternately offset the slide by looping through the slide first right then left. The idea here is when lowering the sail the main will flake first to starboard then to port rather than only one way. I have inquired to some of the other sailmakers I received quotes from about the luff slide arrangement and they are suggesting that the offset may make for difficult raising or lowering of the sail. Has anyone out there had and experience with this mainsail available through Catalina Direct and may be able to comment on this detail as well as the quality of the sail itself. The batten detail I've seen in pics looks of very high qualility. I sail alot single handed and difficulty raising or lowering is not what I'm looking forward to in a new sail. I presently have lazy jacks and plan to add one of the many stack packs available today as well.
