Bought a leftover e36 and I'm delighted with the boat. It didn't come with a TV (but its got everything that I need) The wife really wants the hookup but I called Marlow and they don't have a standard hookup detail , wiring harness, etc. Anyone have any suggestions regarding TV, Internet, etc?

Thanks,

Dan

Waternwaves,

We are still recovering from Sandy. Just got shore power at the slip. I was hoping to get some kind of plug in that would work through the airwaves without incurring tremendous wifi charges. I'm going with an AC/DC TV. Haven t decided which brand yet.

What I did was pick up a TV that was the right size to fit the designated space. The only requirements was that it needed to be digital ready and have an HD LED picture. Dual voltage units are costlier and perhaps harder to find in the right size and did not want to deal with a power converter since we already had an inverter so we went with a straight 120V unit. We carry a 50' coaxial cable to hook up to cable TV available at marinas and for when on the hook we have a multidirectional antenna 3/4 distance up the mast with a powered signal amplifier. It is a real treat to be able to watch a Sunday football game while underway. Considered a sound bar but then decided it would be a bit much.

12 volt

If was me buying a new TV it would be a HD 12 volt and most new TV's
have a brick that switches over from the 110 to 12 volt and easy to hookup
but would look first at 12 volt cigarette lighter plug or just direct wires to 12 volt panel.
I have 07 H-36 with inverter/charger from the factory and have a few HD TV's so I just plug in the 110 off my inverter and have outside marine power boost ant for many channels,I also have 2 solar panels for when most times anchor out in SW florida.
Depends how handy you are for your setup,my TV is on wall port side next
to door to vee berth.

We just mounted a 26" LCD in our Catalina 27. We don't have cable or Wifi in our marina, and we don't have an antenna yet, so I picked up one of these:
Micca Speck 1080p Full-HD Ultra Portable Digital Media Player

Now I can load up a flash drive with movies and tv shows and I don't have to worry about lugging around a DVD player or discs. The thing is smaller than my cell phone. Works great!

Minor threadjack:

I have a really hard time understanding electric systems, so please indulge me. We only have a starter battery and a deep cycle battery. (can't remember size) Theoretically, is it possible to run the TV and this little player off the battery with a simple inverter plugged into the cigarette lighter plug? I think that's what seadaddler was saying, right? It would be nice to be able to watch a little TV when we're on the ball or hook.

For $150 I went with an ac 24" LED 1080 dp with built in DVD which works off shore power. Don't use it outside the marina, though might consider it depending on what I would have to do to get signal sust off the coast or at anchor.

Sure you can, I do it with my 24" LED myself. Depending on your battery, of course, will depend on how long you'd want to run it, but I watched about three hours the other night on the way down the lake at night when I was waiting for some wind. You do lose some efficiency with the inverter, but you should be able to at least get a little viewing in there just fine.

If you look at the wall wart/brick on the power cord you should see the input and output voltages. 120 input is obvious, if you can find one with a 12 volt output then the TV is actually running off 12 volts DC soooooo
you can just neuter the brick and connect to the DC mains (through a circuit breaker of course) to power the TV. No inverter needed

I think we had this same thread on running a 12v tv off ships power a short time back. The concern expressed by some was if the tv could handle the 14 or more volts when the engine was running. I think the conclusion was, maybe, maybe not :).

We use a 19" led tv, wifi connected DVD player, and a $50 tv antenna that hangs on the cabin wall (it is about 8x10", 1/4" thick). It has worked quite well for us on the east coast of Florida and in the Bahamas. Usually get 5 to 10 stations on the air, Netflix on wifi in the marinas. We generally only use it in a marina, on the odd occasion when used on the hook it runs on a small dedicated inverter.

Wanted the largest tv I could get in so I took out the air-conditioner grill and had the vanes put into a new teak version and then mounted it vertically so I could get the 32' Samsung TV fitted. Up-grade the audio with a PolkAudio sound bar with a bluetooth sub-woofer. An Apple TV unit is his behind the TV so I can also stream from any of my devices as well.
