I bought a 1988 Capri 22 with a fixed wing keel. It was up on blocks at a boat yard and in great shape. I ordered a new trailer for it and this is how the boat yard ended up placing the sailboat on the trailer (see pix).

When they placed the boat on the trailer so the keel would sit on the axle and cross support, it was pretty clear that the bow was about 2' from the bow stop on the trailer tongue. No matter how far back they slid the bow stop, it would not meet the bow.

So in a moment of inspiration, they "modified" the trailer by taking the entire bow stop off the front of the trailer tongue and sticking it on the back of the traiiler tongue where it met nicely with the bow. Even though a lot of the stern was hanging off the back of the trailer it was actually very stable and I ended up with an extra long trailer tongue that made it easy to launch the boat in a fairly shallow marina.

My concern is whether or not this modification is safe. I did trailer the boat 60 miles without any problems before launching her. It is now time to pull her out and I wonder if I shouldn't get this changed.

I have the same keel on my Catalina-22 MK-II, and it looks good to me, and sometimes I'll have a couple inches between the bow of the boat and the front roller by the trailer winch. Not a big deal. I attached several photos of my other C-22 MK-II with the Capri-22 wing keel for you to see. Hope that helps.

Looks to me like the axle and bunks should be farther forward on the trailer frame.

I agree w/pl104. The axles looks too far back on the frame. Post the question over at www.capri22.net. Those guys have all the answers.

Oh, and congrats on the purchase of a great boat!!!

Thanks for all the advice. I think it would have been better to move the axle, too. I'll re post over on capri22.net. Thanks.
