I have just bought a Y-25 (manufactured 1977), which is my first boat. Now I start searching info about this boat. Learned that there're a few sub-models: Y-25, Y-25 II, Y-25 II SD, MK II, MK II Tall Rig.

I wonder how to identify which sub-model she belongs to? Since the previous owner also bought it 2nd-handed, he also doesn't know and he doesn't have the manual.

I plan to replace all the shrouds as they're already aged. Is there any online resources on the rig tuning guide? And does the tuning vary among the sub-models?

I also plan to replace the aged sails, and intend to install over-sized genoa. Did anyone try it before, and any comment/suggestion?

Appreciated on any info/comments/suggestions!

Thanks Boffin.

Just got it's a Y-25 II. The engine was replaced 2 years ago, which I got both user and service manuals from Internet.

Now I'm looking for rigging info to replace the shrouds. And I'm looking for sail replacement as well. I came across Sailrite (www.sailrite.com), I wonder if it worth a try? Anyone tried that before and any comment?

Y25II manual

Welcome aboard- check out Bob's Yamahasailboats.org website, I sent him a copy of my owners manual - don't know if it ever got scanned it. If not I can make you a copy (cost about $20 to copy/mail ) lot's of rigging info. drop me a note at syntonossailor@yahoo.com if you like. I'd suggest a roller furling system($$). Nice to be able to downsize in a blow. My experience is oversized head-sail tends to overpower the boat and a furler makes sail handling a pleasure since all your other sail control are at the cockpit.

Lyn, thanks for your offer. I guess I'll firstl check if I can get a copy from fellows in local boat clubs, which should be easier.

Your concern on the over-sized headsail is indeed valid for such a small boat. But the wind here is relatively weak for most time of the year, so a bigger sail should help. The boat comes with the furler system already, so that's not a problem.

Just got a full copy of the owner's manual for Y-25 II. There's a lot of detailed info, including the rigging, wire tension tunning, and sail plans.

I guess I'll follow the manual for initial tunning as well as the choice of the sails, though it should take me some time to study it.

Yes, I found the manual is so useful.

Now I am proceeding to tuning the rig, and some questions arise.

Another newbie to the Yamaha s5ft mkII

Just got my boat down to Shelter Island in San Diego Dec. 28th. Lots of questions like: moving the traveler, teflon bearing and casing on propeller shaft, installing holding tank for head. Any help or response would be appreciated. More questions but enough for now. What great little boat.

Thanks, themess

Forget Sailrite it's for do-it-yourselfers.... Call Chip Buck at Point Sails. His loft is under the Coronado Bridge in National City. http://www.pointsails.com/Contact.aspx He'll take care of you and cut you a great deal. Besides coming out to the boat to get everything fitted right.... he'll give you some advice on rigging. You won't be sorry that you did it right the first time.
