I'm new to the forum and new to the catalina 22. Been lurking on the forum and time for an introduction.

We bought a new (to me) 1989 "new design" wing keel in excellent shape last year and have been enjoying her at Utah Lake. The PO named her "dragonfly" and we like the name.

We previously sailed a San Juan 21 in Eugene Oregon, but after moving to Utah quickly realized we needed a bimini. (Yet to be added) This wasn't practical on the San Juan so, time for an upgrade. Thanks to Stingy's blog I was sold before we found the boat. Bigger cockpit, bimini-able, still easily trailerable...

Gotta thank you all. This forum has been a wealth of information and I'm looking forward to the community.

Fair winds everyone.

That's a great boat you got, and rare! Congratulations, and welcome aboard! That boat has clearly been loved, and the PO knew a thing or two about how to rig it. The upgraded rudder is a big plus unto itself. A very lucky find!

I'm curious about your jib winches. Care to share more pics of them?

The jib winches are lewmar's smallest self-tailers. The two on the cabintop are lewmar #6's. I'll try to post more pics when I next get to the marina.

I'm still scratching my head at the choice to place the cam cleats at the cockpit after the winches, but it works. I dont really use the cabintop winches anyway so I figure it's better to sail her for a while before making major revisions.

Here are a few pics while she was on the trailer.

Sweet boat and nice find. I faintly remember a member on here who had a boat named dragonfly? I wonder if its the previous owner.

The PO (Scott) sailed out of Lake Pleasant AZ. He and his wife were going to cruise the great loop in a power boat and are probably somewhere on the Mississippi right now.

Great to hear you found a late model 22 in Utah! Funny thing is that we sail Fern Ridge reservoir in Eugene OR and we sold our 88 C22 back in 2013. It was our favorite sailboat and we lavished goodies and care on her. Well... I was looking through Facebook Marketplace and up came our boat out in Park City Utah. Needless to say we jumped right on it and brought her home again. It had been sitting for a while and I just about have everything back in place. Its good to be sailing "Full Circle" again.

Congratulations and welcome aboard! She's a beauty for sure. The more you sail her, the more you'll love her.

My daughter also owns a 1989 Cat 22 with a wing keel named "Song Wolf". It is docked at the Great Salt Lake Marina. It would be great if we could get together to discuss our boats and sailing experiences in Utah. If you haven't considered the GSL, you might take a look. It's currently very low, but we hope that will change. Utah lake is also shallow, correct? Sailing on the GSL lake is beautiful and docking fees are probably the cheapest in the area.

Thanks. We met another couple who live on a boat in Mexico during the winter but sail a Cat 22 in the GSL during the summers. Without their Cat 22 knowledge, we probably wouldn't have been able to restore "Song Wolf". She is a seamstress and has made numerous covers for their boat, and a few for ours. She gave us their old canvas cover for the companionway. They just pulled their boat out of the GSL and took it to the San Juan Islands for a while.

Those appear to be Lewmar’s “Wavegrip” winches available between 1983 and 1991. Sweet winches for a sweet boat.
