We just purchased what we believe is a 1978 O'Day 17' She's in great shape and we can't wait to get her in the water--afer sailing lessions! These numbers are embedded in the hull: XDY10013M78J-D Help with identification of these numbers and comments on O'Day Day Sailers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What a beautiful boat. Hope that you enjoy her. Go to the Daysailer web site www.DaySailer.org and under technical info (dropdown menu)there is a section on hull numbers. Hope that this helps. I cannot wat until it starts to warm up and gt onto the water again. Fair Winds Gary 1966 DS I "Dancing Girls II"

Welcome aboard with your 1978

I have a slightly older 1973 DS II. You can check out its resortarion at http://groups.msn.com/RogerConrad/shoebox.msnw Also check out the daysailer website at http://www.daysailer.org/index.php go to forums and classified and click on the general forum dropdown menu. You will meet a continent full (and more) of daysailers just like you.

Have Fun

Have Fun !!!! Steve and Amy and please think of us poor souls in middle America that are looking out our windows to the "white" stuff and 19 F. I even got an e-mail from the sailing club that stated the lake I sail on is brimming over with water. I am not about to sail in 19 F weather, so all I can do is dream about the coming spring and keep warm with a good beer or glass of wine. Have fun with you new DaySailer and give us a report on you sailing. Gary 1966 DS I 'Dancing Girls II'

Thining of you!

Thanks for the reply Gary! I haven't checked back to this site for a while. I sure do know about the "white stuff" call SNOW and ICE! We recently moved to NC from Columbus, Ohio. Got hit with it on our Christmas visit home! Left here at 60 degrees to be met with one cleared runway and the electric off! Spend 5 days in Ohio trying to keep warm! Sooooooo glad to get back to New Bern! The weather has been chilly here, but NO ICE. We want to set everything up on land first, as Steve does not want to make a fool of himself on water. Planning to take sailing lessons this spring. Hope you get to that lake soon! Amy

1972 day sailor with leaks

HI Roger, I noticed your response to the new sailers Steve and Amy and your link to your restored 1973 boat! I was going through the archives and think I found your response to Rodney about hull leaks- I have the same problem with my 1972 hull- but it seems to be from rain-as the water seems to be more fresh than salt, any ideas? I have printed out the link to replace the donuts, wich I hope to get my courage up to try this spring! Thanks! Mel
