I just have a question, with a ComPac16 will a 2.5hp Yamaha be enough? I plan on using it in a lake but also in the Charleston Harbor which has some currents and things.

I had a 4 hp on a J/24 that we sailed and motored in Charleston Harbor with no problem. You will go slow when you are going against the tide. Test it out on the lake and see how it does. So long as you can motor at 5 MPH in calm water you should be able to make progress against the tide.

I've found it's the "and things" that will get you into trouble. Regardless of motor size. While trying to get the 50 HP Honda started for a sea trial on a MacGregor 26 in Charleston this past Tuesday, the "and things" was an impatient fisherman who didn't appreciate sailors trying to troubleshoot engine trouble. I guess he owned the landing and the pier and the whole harbor.
