My wife and I just purchased a 1976 oday 25 in great shape this past week and so far we are in love with it (I'f I told you the price you would understand why) anyone have any tips before we take her out next weekend?

If you haven't already inspected the rig, do so before you hoist sail.
My 25's weak points were the bulkheads where chainplates attach (rot from water intrusion at the deck), the transom (make sure your motor won't rip it off due to rotten wood), stem fitting (has it been bounced off a concrete pier?), and below-waterline hoses and through-hulls/valves.

Thanks for all the great tips! My dad and I did a very careful job of inspecting everything and we found her to be very structurally sound. The previous owner took very good care of her but had to sell her due to bankruptcy.
Awesome! I was debating on which headsail I would use. She came with a working jib, genny and storm jib. I'm very glad we bought her when we did because here in the galveston bay area ( south of houston) the sailing really picks up towards the end of October.geehaw said:

After a month of getting the timing right- work, scheduling, etc, I brought our early 80's 25 home on the trailer today. I went and took her to the car wash, as the PO had her moored at his cabin on the lake for a couple of years. The OMC saildrive purred like a kitten. Initial smoke on first start, typical with a 2 stroke, but she levelled out and with a following 3 foot wave, chugged right along. We were to haul her, so I can clean her. Stepped the mast from verticlal to rear. Was a pain. Read some more as to use the boom as a fulcrum. Your thoughts, please. I have had smaller cruisers and the mast was not as heavy. I'm 65 so, instead of thinking brawn- need to use brain to get mast up an down. I'm impressed with this boat. Ernie
