NEW to me O'Day 22

Hello shipmates... just wanted to introduce myself before bombarding the forum with questions... My name is Russell and as a Marine I learned to sail in Hawaii and then crewed a bit in Cape Town, South Africa. After I was wounded I bought a Hunter 27 and lived on it and sailed it aboard Camp Lejeune, NC. After I retired I sold the Hunter and moved to Durham, NC. With the closest water being lakes I decided to start looking for a sailboat I could trailer.

I just purchased a 1973 22 foot O'day in sailing condition with a trailer in great condition. I'm looking forward to getting back out on the water and getting to know you all here on the forum.

As for the boat, I love my O'Day 22. It is perfect for my shallow lake, and trailers easily once you get the hang of it.

I'm not sure specifically what your question is. My O'Day 22 has blocks of foam under the cockpit and under the Vee berth. Supposedly it is enough to keep the boat afloat if it completely flooded, but I certainly have not put mine to the test!

Congrats and welcome. The 22 is a fine boat, not perfect, but a well thought out design. I think of it as the station wagon of small keel boats. Not the.most glamorous car in the parking lot but practical for its purpose,x which is easy no fuss sailing with a family of four.
