Well, I did it. I finally closed on the Hunter 27. I'll be looking for lots of help from all you Hunter 27 owners out there. In the meantime I wish to thank all of you that have posted owner comments or commments in this forum. After extensive reading, all the material was a tremendous help inspecting the boat as well as making the decision. I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyment in this boat.

Congrats! Just closed on ours, too

Congratulations! We closed on our '84 model two weeks ago. We got the interior completely scrubbed clean last weekend and installed a new head. Yesterday, I skipped work and washed the decks and applied oxidation remover. This weekend - waxing, painting and thru-hull valve replacements. What year is yours?

Under the starboard side V-berth...

I am the former owner of an '82 h27,and that is where my holding tank was located. Have fun out there...

Good boat to live on!

Congratulations! I'm about 90% done on an '82 that I'm restoring. I live on mine, and I gotta say, its a great boat for a single guy to live on!

I also have a 27' cherubini

we just finished our 1st season with it. Great boat and lots of room. I am now fixing all the little things that I learned were wrong after the 1 st season. I am repairing a small leak in the muffler...tough to get at! I had some difficulty that I haven't resolved yet with the 8sb yanmar slipping out of forward while under power. I am replacing the teleflex shift cable for starters. We refinished much of the woodwork last spring and redid the tipside with anti skid paint... it came out great. John

The weakest link and how to fix it.

I found that the weakest link on my 1981 Hunter 27 was the Renault engine. I replaced mine with a Vetus 16 horsepower diesel and could not be happier. What a difference in noise, power and speed makes a very good boat into a great boat.

HUNTER 27-stuffing box leak

We just got a Hunter 27 as well this week. We're thrilled. However, we have a leak in the stuffing box and are unable to remove the packing gland - having lots of trouble. Anyone have any recommendations? Any help would be appreciated.

Flax Packing Extractor

Linda West Marine and others sell a Flax packing extractor for about $13.00. It is small and looks like a wine bottle cork screw on the end. You may try that. I would like to recomend you do a search in the archives for packing, or stuffin box or GFI Gortex packing. I highly recomend Gortex packing as a replacement packing, I use it and my stuffin box does not leak or build up heat. Good Luck Jim
