Just purchased a 1997 Hunter 26. I need info regarding the relative ease of raising lowering the centerboard. I had a C22 where it was ultimately easy for the beautiful sandy cove on our lake.

Centerboard

My center board goes down very easy on my h26. But I use the winch to get it back up. I crank slowly and hear a nice soft thumpt when it's all the way up. Once I have it up I can hold the rope until I get it cleated off. Jason

Some people find it necessary to use the winch but I find it comes up fairly easy if you are underway. Just give it a steady tug and the water pressure will help you. I think there is lots on this subject in the archives and suspect that if you try to cinch it down too tight, you'll stress the rope and have to eventually replace it. Also, let it down gently, you can damage the board or chip the gelcoat at the pivot point.
