New Shrouds

After my unfortunate de-masting in October, I was finally able to get my boat back in the water. However when stepping the mast I noticed that it was quite difficult with the new shrouds that I had made. On the port side I had the turnbuckles almost completely out. Is this normal with new shrouds are they usually this tight?

If your shrouds were made the same length both turnbuckles should be equal. If they are not the same length there is no way of knowing if this is right or not. Your mast could be leaning to starboard. There are many posts on how to check that. To start I would unstep your mast and be sure all four shrouds are the same length. Then you will know how all the turnbuckles look in respect to the other ones.

Are you sure they are the right length? There is always a call to D & R Marine to verify things. They even sell them pre-made.

They were made by West Marine I sent the upper and lower with them, O i am thinking that they may have screwed up

make sure you mast is vertical. take your main halyard shackle to the chainplate and pull it tight. Secure the bitter end. Swing it over to the other side, avoiding fouling. It should touch at the exact same spot.

I was able to solve the problem by using old turnbuckles. The T-bolt is a little bit longer as is the U-shaped piece that goes around the T-bolt
