Has anyone done business with "The Sail Warehouse" in Monterey, CA? I just received a catalog from them and they appear to have a good handle on sail making. I'm considering replacing the sails on our boat and I'm looking for a company to do business with including this site. Terry

Terry: I think that they have their sails made offshore. If you start pricing sails be sure to compare all details being equal. This includes the exact material, thread, hearboards etc. My experience when pricing out sails with some of these companies is the fact that their basic sails are "cheaper" and once you start adding extras and changing things the prices are very close or even more expensive than prices like on this website.

The sails are made by Rolly Tasker sails in Thailand. Try rollytasker.com I have a main, jib and cruising spinnaker by Rolly Tasker. Main and jib were bought at local sail shop. Cruising spinnaker I bought from The Sail Warehouse. U.S. materials shipped to Thailand. Person on phone seemed nice and knew what they were talking about. I cruise and do not race and like my sails. They have a nice shape to them. If you have a sailboat show you can get to you may be able to get name brand sails for not much more money.

I've had some sails

from Sail Wharehouse/Rolly Tasker on previous boats and they were a good value. These were non-racing headsails made from very stiff Dacron. Yet I think Steve is right that if you are going to buy new sails (and I've had some excellent buys in used sails from Sail Wharehouse/Bacons/E-bay), you may be better off in the end by dealing with a reputable name brand sail loft. When I decided to have a new main made for my H28.5, just as an example, I dealt with North Sails. They sent an expert to my boat to measure and make sure the sail would fit above my bimini. While their price was a bit higher than the offshore outlets, the service and quality more than made up for it, IMHO.

My new Rolly Tasker...

Purchased from National Sails in FL. Fit like a glove, terrific shape. Top quality materials including Dacron made in the USA. Price: $2,300.00 shipped to my door. The best price I got from anyone else was over $4,000.00 from US company with the highest being just under 6K. These guys may piss and moan about people going off-shore for their sails, but $1,700.00+ is NOT chump change. Cheers, Bob

I shopped both

I shopped both the sail warehouse and national sail supply. Bought a new 135 from national sail. The sail is quite acceptable for casual cruising. Fits and sets well, etc. Not offshore quality, but that is not what I was buying. And the purchase experience could not be better.
