I think it is important to consider the economy. Selling anything is tough right now and is likely to remain so for several years. IMHO. So, if you buy with intention to sell in a year or so you may very well be stuck. On the other hand, used boat prices are very good. If you are sure what you want, now may be the time to get that "final" boat.

Hard to know right now what to do.

Does he have an illness, How the hell would I know, he did not post that he had one, whats your problem, I am merely giving my prospectus on what I do, Not what you or anyone else does, just me, if you have a problem with the right to free posting then maybe you should keep your opinion to yourself...?

Sounds like you have a really big chip on your shoulder. Ed said nothing to warrent such a response.

I agree with Winkfish. Find a local Club or Sailing group and take some lessons. I started out as a "boat bum". I crewed with different folks. It's amazing how much you can learn just tending a jib sheet. As dscribner says, A good sized trailerable is an option. I've been trailering for 40+ years and have enjoyed it. Been from Baja to BC and points in between. Started off with a V-21 and worked up to V-25 in 1976. I never want to be "Sliplocked", especially in the middle of the desert. Slip fees can be pretty steep. Find something that easy to rig and sail. Fair Winds and Full Sails...

The other advantage of joining a sailing club is that sometimes they have club boats you can take out. Our yacht club has several Flying Scots, Vanguards, 420s, and I think even a couple of Sunfish. You can get first hand feel for the boats and what you like. As Freedom said, volunteer to crew as well. Then you can pick their brains as to what they like and don't like about their bots. I find that boats are very often looking for crew.
