Just bought a 272 Oday, 1987. What do some of you seasoned sailors recommend I purchase to keep aboard? May save me months and years of trial and error. How about keeping port-a-pot from smelling? How about cleaning the deck? A little mildew there. Maybe hints on maintenance practices? A wide open subject I know, but thank you for any help you can give. kathy

Archieve Search

Kathy, This site has discussed many of the topics you list during previous sessions. I would recommend first doing a query on the achieve section using the key words from your questions. If found many potential solutions regarding the battle with mildew. Don

cocktails!

Welcome aboard Kathy and here's a few words of wisdom! "A sailboat can operate without the motor or sails and rudder or even mast but without cocktails she is merely a floating hulk! Lesser vintages will suffice for company onboard~" The archives on this site will lead you to many of the most common and some uncommon questions afloat. When i bought my O'Day two years ago I explained to the surveyor that my first project would be to add an inverter to the electrical systems so the blender can make margaritas while on the hook. He said "Glad you have your priorities straight!" On a more serious note I started from the bottom up, replaced everything that could spring a leak, total bottom job and a good rigging check with a few replacements where needed. Batteries, engine, sails and lines and good safety gear. Charts of your area and good luck! howie~
