http://www.deepwatermovie.co.uk/ The story of Donald Crowhurst from the true story "A Voyage for Madmen". If any of you have read the book, you can imagine this being a fairly dark movie. Hopefully the story leading up will show the start of the race and some of the other sailors with their boats. Tim R.

Apparently it drifted into the Carribean and was found near the Caymans.

Tragic Story

It is such a tragic story... Donald should have come to the US and planted himself in Silicon Valley.. He would have rode the boom in high style... --jerry

into oblivion

ok, saw the trailer, thanks (i think). It has been my dream for sometime to get a large sailing ship and sail to far of islands, and new lands. I get an eary feeling just watching the trailer of this movie. If I take the admiral to see it will she (and I ) be scared out of my (our) dream ??? We have only done coastal cruising thus far.

Opening in the UK

According to the web site IMDB (see link), it was previously shown in September at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. The Dec. 15 opening is in the UK. Hopefully, it'll show up in the artsy cinemas somewhere near you (and me).

Sunnday Times Golden Globe Race of 1968

Very interesting, I certainly hope we will have the chance to get this movie here in Canada somewhere. Tom Crowhurst was an interesting man I have always been very interested in the Sunnday Times Golden Globe Race of 1968. First because of my interest in Bernard moitessier (who actually would have won that race) and for my interest in Eric Tabarly the second sailor who inpired me. But did not participate in this solo race. Actually Tabarly was lost at sea from his beloved Pendick Ketch en route for la Nioulargue some years back... He never wore a harness coming from the thinking he prefere dying fast instead of having sea bird eat his eye balls while a ship would be searching for him.. But this belong to a different thread on this site... http://www.bluemoment.com/moitessier.html Very nice thank you for posting this information. Cheers, a.

It is in the thread "best looking boat" of course ;-) It is at my house and I am planning to strip the bottom paint this weekend by blasting with walnut shells. I am also doing some interior refinishing. It needs a new cabin sole and some TLC on the other woodwork but she is pretty and sails great. We spent 10 days on her in September cruising as far as NE harbor. We love to hike Acadia after the touristos head south. A friend of mine bought the Pearson and keeps it at CYC a few moorings away from me so I still get to see her often Tim R.

We just missed you guys..

We were down east the last two weeks of August so we just missed you. Are you renting a blaster or having someone come to your house to do it? If you do it in your yard be sure to cover your grass with plastic not a drop cloth. I used a cloth, then it rained, and the copper went through the cloth into my grass. I had to dig down six inches and put new top soil in to get the grass to grow. Unfortunately I did mine with a hand sander and I'll NEVER do that again... thanks for the info on this movie

I am anxious to see this movie. "Touching the Void" was very good. An earlier book, "The Last, Strange Voyage of Donald Crowhurst" gives more detail about his escapade and is great winter reading.
