When purchasing a brand new sailboat, how much "wiggle" room is there in price? None? Tens of thousands? Is this like a car purchase? The broker isn;t moving other than the old 'boat show discount'.

Never had enough money...

for a new boat... and never will. Can't answer your question. On my used boat... I offered 25% less and stood firm. Happy haggeling, Rich

Would this boat be a production model?

Some boats like the new Harbor 25 are made on order, therefore you get in line to get yours made. Hard to negotiate. This boat I saw at the Cleveland Boat Show was a sold boat. Keep us posted.Good Luck

Times are going to get tough and industry is slow...

..keep looking in the internet for near new boats to get an idea on price. I think 10-12% off is fair....but I have received emails from my dealer on 15% off recently. Most important...be patient. The boats will always be there if the one you are looking at today sells. abe

Good question

Given the limited new boat dealers in a given territory, the manufactures are creating an opportunity to maintain their margins. The only logical alternative is to contact dealers in the various regions, negotiate your best price, and pay for shipping. For over a year, I have had a dialoge with a local dealer for a 2 year old new showroom boat and the selling price has remained unchanged. Given that it isn't 100% what I want, I am not desparate for a new boat, and new models keep coming on the market, I am sure I will find something that will accomodate my wish list at a fair price.

Cash is king

With no trade-in, especially. Try lowballing 40% and don't blink.

Harbor 25

I had some interest until I found out they were using a gas inboard. I thought they gave up on gas inboards with the demise of the atomic 4 25 years ago Who needs an inboard in a 25ft 4000lb boat anyway?
